Youth Unlimited is an organisation dedicated to supporting youth in the Drummoyne and Canada Bay area.
Y.U. was created by St Bede’s Anglican Church in 1985, primarily to help youth at risk of drug and alcohol abuse. Over the years, it has done significant work in local high schools and with many local families. It has been governed and staffed by members of St Bede’s throughout this time.
Up until 2011, Y.U. was sustained by a grant from the Sydney South West Area Health Service. At the end of 2010 we decided to become a self-funding organisation and requested that the grant money be given to others working in the health sphere.
In an age and area where youth are increasingly under pressure and families often struggle to keep up with rapid social change, Y.U. is exploring new ways in which we can help.
One such initiative has been the creation of Parent Transition Forums at Drummoyne Public School for parents of students heading into high school. In the last 2 years we have addressed issues such as cyber bullying, adolescent health and communication. We hope to initiate other forums in 2012
